Notes from Dr. RW point out that Cleveland Clinic is publishing an open medical textbook for FREE online access.
In his comments, Dr. Vesselin Dimov (of Clinical Cases and Images) further notes that the Clinic has had a longstanding commitment to open medical education. Unlike so many medical institutions paying lip service to being "patient centric", the Clinic has real results to show.
Clinical Cases and Images is a multi-contributor blog supported by their hospitalist group. They have recently done a roundup of patient blogs urging the medical community to look at healthcare system through the patient's eyes. This is an example of Open Medicine in action.
Kudos to Cleveland Clinic for their vision. The question now is how to get the rest of the American health system onboard.
UPDATE: Jane Sarasohn-Kahn has written about healthcare transparency (Part 1, Part 2), also praising Cleveland Clinic.
