Trusted.MD Network Jumps on Health 2.0 Bandwagon

Featured in:

A major announcement that completely changes my take on Health 2.0. Count Trusted.MD Network in on the movement!

UPDATE: To clarify, this is April Fool's joke. Do not take anything in this post seriously. I still believe in new technologies, sound business and good laugh.

In a historic announcement, I am very pleased to reverse my take on Health 2.0 concept, which stirred significant coverage and debate.

First, why do this? Quite simply put when the hype reaches critical mass you cannot simply ignore it, you have to jump in! Michael Moritz, the VC behind Yahoo and Google, when questioned about his torrid pace of dot-com investing around 1999 or 2000 said something like this:

The fools are dancing, but the bigger fools are still watching

So I think it is time to join the party!

What are the signs that Health 2.o really arrived? Above all there is a nice graphic explaining what it is all about. No bandwagon is complete without a nice graphic. I remember back during "B2B" days a Morgan Stanley analyst was saying it is a$60 trillion dollar business. He showed a picture and everyone believed him. Recently I have seen some nice graphics in presentations about Santa Barbara County Care Data Exchange (SBCCDE) and also CalRHIO. Well chosen pictures and words make success guaranteed.

But why the urgency to take up the label?

Simply put this is all about money. The reason hip new trends are created is to make as much money as possible, as fast as possible. If together we convinced everyone that Health 2.0 is real, investors, enterprises and even consumers will have no choice but open their checkbook and make us all rich.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are following a proven model here, the one brought to us by Underpants Gnomes, the shrewedest business people around:

  1. Say Health 2.0
  2. ???
  3. Profit !!!

Do not listen to naysayers who say there are too many obstacles. They are too dumb or not clued-in. Instead make bold claims about your progress. Trusted.MD Network for example just had a bit over a billion visitors today. I challenge you to say you had more, but please be sure you do not have any proof. Too much attention to detail would ruin the fun for everyone.

Unfortunately there are still drawbacks to joining Health 2.0 party

First of all, many concepts put up on the graphic are still too useful and practical. There is a danger they may actually help some people. But I can take heart in how nicely they have been arranged. This reminds me of the brilliant marketing campaigns like Pets.com sock puppet mascot. We all remember it.

My advice to Health 2.0 compatriots is to think bigger like AllAdvantage.com which paid people to surf the web. Soon we will be rolling out a service where for a nominal fee we will cure any diseases you have by watching a patent-pending image on our site. This is the future of healthcare!

Damn, we are so far ahead of the curve this is Health 3.0!

So cast away any doubts and jump on the bandwagon. Together we will surely enough convince the IPO market to assign billion dollar valuations to companies with no revenue, because you know what they do is way too cool. Even if this still does not happen we still have Google to buy them out.

In other news, Jimmy Wales the founder of Wikipedia went into open-source eye surgery, TechCrunch acquired F****d Company and Google bolstered Health 2.0 with "Toilet Internet Service Provider" (TiSP).

Health 2.0 is derived from the term Web 2.0, which implies a 2nd generation/release of the Internet. The '2.0' part was established within computer programming - as a new edition of a an application is released, it is common practice for the programmers to add an incrementing number at the end of a program's name, to label the new version.Web 2.0 implies the '2nd release' of the Internet, which of course is not based on anything concrete. The Internet being made up of millions upon millions of interconnecting computers running lots of various programs, but is more of a concept to describe the type of programs/applications/functionality one can now locate on the Internet. The Internet was initially complied of mainly static pages of data. Soon to follow was email, web forums and chat rooms where discussions could take place. Web 2.0 refers to a trend on the Internet that saw a step forward in the way users conduct communicate over the Internet, which includes the use of blogs, videos, podcasts, wikis and online communities where people with common interests get together to share ideas, media, code and all types of information. Web 2.0 technologies such as social networking, blogs,  patient communities and online tools for search and self-care management look as though they will permanently alter the healthcare landscape indefinitely. As with Web 2.0, there is a lot of debate about the meaning of the term 'health 2.0'. The Wall Street Journal recently attempted to define Health 2.0 as: “The social-networking revolution is coming to health care, at the same time that new Internet technologies and software programs are making it easier than ever for consumers to find timely, personalized health information online. Patients who once connected mainly through email discussion groups and chat rooms are building more sophisticated virtual communities that enable them to share information about treatment and coping and build a personal network of friends. At the same time, traditional Web sites that once offered cumbersome pages of static data are developing blogs, podcasts, and customized search engines to deliver the most relevant and timely information on health topics.” While this traditional view of the definition imputes it as the merging of the Web 2.0 phenomenon within healthcare. I personally believe it’s so much more. In my opinion, Health 2.0 goes way beyond just the permeant  social networking technology to include a complete renaissance in the way that Healthcare is actually delivered and conveyed.

The fact is that web 2.0 is here to stay. It's almost like the mainframe computing all over again, in which all our medical records are kept online, doctors appointments are made online as well.

It's better to watch and take notes instead of risk investing and losing. My mom always said: learn from other people's mistakes, don't let them learn from yours.

The author does have a point, if you say it loud enough and work step 2 you will indeed turn a profit. Health 2.0 does sound like a good concept on paper but it will be determined how useful it will be for the population in time.

Risk should be taken in life.. Without risk we cant move farward..

I completely agree with this line : Health 2.0 does sound like a good concept on paper but it will be determined how useful it will be for the population in time.

thanks..

The fact that people nee dot be careful of the risks is only part of the concern. What happens is that we hear new and we all jump and run expecting something better. What we don't do is actually find out if it is. I think that we need to pay lots of attention to what we are getting in to before we jump head first into something we know nothing about it.
