Short Bio

I have been a nurse for over 30 years. My specialty has been home health care which I chose because I wanted to be able to spend more quality time with patients one on one.

Over the course of my career, I gradually moved into middle management and became a nursing supervisor and then moved into quality improvement where I could use my skills to mentor the nurses. I especially loved helping nurses move into this specialty from other realms of the nursing world.

In the past few years I have pursued my love of writing. I was the Guide to Nursing at About.com for 3 years before they merged nursing into the health careers site. I have since moved my blog and content to my own sites. The Nursing Site and the Nursing Site Blog is where I carry on that work.

I have authored four books in the past 3 years. The first, The Everything New Nurse Book has been a big seller. In Feb. 2009, Adams Media released a repurpose of this book, called 150 Tips and Tricks for New Nurses.

The Everything Guide to Caring for Aging Parents is my latest book and it was also released in Feb. 2009. I have a new blog to accompany this issue of caregiving: AboutAgingParents.com

 I also authored The Everything Guide to Careers in Health Care which was published in 2007.
