A Patient's Journey

It's the end of the world as we know it.

It's a sad day for democracy, and for the people of the US

No longer is the United States a country "of the people, by the people, and for the people". It's now of the corporations, by the corporations and for the corporations.

At the heart of the issue

The following is a post from one of the many listserves I participate in. The names have been withheld to protect the innocent.

If you don't have any compassion for this person, then you have no heart or soul, and aren't human.

Just wondering for those of you who have to pay 20 percent like me [medicare only pays 80%],  how you do it. Expecially after [stem cell] transplant. I just added up all my 30 different bills

I'm depressed

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan rage on, with no end in sight, and the debate on health care reform seems to be going nowhere.

I've always hated this time of the year, with it's shorter days and colder temperatures, but this year seems to be worse. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan rage on, with no end in sight, and the debate on health care reform seems to be going nowhere.

A poll for the day

Is it better to pay more taxes & have access to all the health care you need, or pay less taxes & have to worry about going bankrupt if you get sick

I recently commented on a story over at Marketwatch.com, about health care and what people need.

Why Republicans have been so effective

Featured in:

Because when confronted with the truth, and unable to respond, they have an uncanny ability to shift the subject in a completely different direction.

Last week, I posted here, how it was about time someone on the left, Alan Grayson to be specific, finally grew a pair of cojones, and told it like it was about the Republican position on health care.

Don't get sick and die quickly!

It's about time someone on the Democratic side grew a pair of cojones, and.....

It looks like Senator Alan Grayson must have read my previous post.

It's about time someone on the Democratic side grew a pair of cojones, and called the Republicans out for what they really are. A bunch of reprobates, for lack of a more forceful description.

Now all we need to see is some follow through!

Why are some people are so stupid

Featured in:

Why do people choose to believe all the lies and ignore the truth?

I have been told by many people I've talked to, mostly those opposed to health care reform, that providing universal health care in this country will cost too much. Yet on the other hand, they go on to state we already have universal health care in the US, because anyone can go to a hospital emergency room and get care.

So if it is true we already have universal health care, why is there so much discussion about how much the proposals, before congress, will cost? Who's paying for it now? And why will it cost more if we enact some legislation?

A misconception about pre-existing conditions

Featured in:

in our screwed up health insurance system, you're not considered to have health insurance if you only have employer based health insurance

There is a common misconception by many in this country, that people who are denied health insurance due to a pre-existing condition, have never had health insurance before, and waited until they got sick to seek the purchase of health insurance.

The defeat of Obamacare

Featured in:

And I thought the Republicans were the biggest health insurance industry whores.

Well they've got nothing on Max Baucus, and the other democrats who helped draft this plan.

This is great news for the insurance companies. It's even better than they could have ever imagined. Insurance premiums are going to skyrocket, especially if you're an elderly American, not eligible for Medicare.

According to the plan, insurance companies will be able to charge up to 5 TIMES as much as an average policy based on your age. With an average policy for an individual running about $500/month, that would add up to $30,000 per year.

Oh yes, I am the great pretender

I admit I may have a rather unique perspective on life, but I sure don't have a wonderful outlook on things.

You have such a wonderful outlook on things

I hear that statement, or variation there of, directed at me all the time, and I think it's time I set the record straight.

I admit I may have a rather unique perspective on life, but I sure don't have a wonderful outlook on things. In reality, I have a very
