I emailed them back, confirming ownership of mppllc.com and received this reply:

Dear  Sir,

As you can probably guess, the “Domain name&Internet brand keyword Disputed Applicication form” is not a dispute form at all, but an order form, with exorbitant rates to register domains. Here’s the price list:

★    Single registration fee:
(.cn/.com.cn/.net.cn/.org.cn)               Domain name:160USD/ 5 Years Per Name
(.hk/.tw)                                  Domain name:405USD/ 5 Years Per Name
(.mobi)                                   Domain name:320USD/ 5 Years Per Name
(.cc)                                      Domain name:340USD/ 5 Years Per Name
(.asia)                                     Domain name:840USD/ 5 Years Per Name
.Internet brand keyword:                        705EUR/ 5 Years Per Name

And of course that gave it away right there.

I don’t think these scammers will score too many hits because they are just too greedy. They’d probably make more money by charging a “dispute resolution processing fee” or some other kind of innocuous service charge rather than going for the big score.

Hello everyone!

Many thanks to the person that posted this article! People in my company refused to believe that this was a scam when i told them right from the start. Then i found this website and now I finally have proof so they have to believe me. What is surprising is that the email had phone numbers of people you can contact which i think was a stupid idea on their part. We tried calling the phone numbers and actually got through and spoke to people who tried to get us to book domain names for ridiculous rates. Completely unprofessional stupid chinese people on the other side totally gave it away. All I know is that they are based out of Hong Kong. I got an email from 'Byron ke'

I got the same email and I did not search the internet first to see if it was legitimate. I usually check everything... stupid me. They got a little more sophisticated this time. They emailed I emailed back that I did not authorize it, they send an email claiming to be from the company that was going to register our name, saying they they were going to proceed anyway because they felt it was important to have that name for their product and the next day an email from the domain name company also saying that the other company was going to proceed.

I quickly registered the .cn and .com.cn domains through a different company for one year. It cost me around $30 for both.

Oh well! a waste of $30. What can you do. I guess it could have been worst.

I too received the same email and did not look into it. Mine came from a Michael with no last name - should have been a dead give away. We seem to think they monitor they probably monitor domain name registration changes and send this out whenever anyone updates their records, we just did this when we changed hosts and it was not 2 hours later that we got the email. I think its Comparable to the Nigerian email bank scam.

they say "no", this is cert is for u if some one use ur brand name, u can provide this cert to sue them...

den i email them which organization issue this cert? no reply

if someone infringement my brand name and i want to sue them, do i need that cert?

I received the same mail and I replied as below followed up with a threat. As expected, no reaction. Is there a way to report this kind of crime?

Dear Lynne

Following my below mail to you on 10th June, I have contacted our Trademark Attorneys M/s. Crowe & Crowe. They have in turn passed the information on to their representative in HK, M/s. Chow and Associates, who have been trying to reach you on your telephone number, but there seems to be an unusual ring tone. As their office is also located in Central (Queen's Road), one of the associates went to you address as mentioned on your mail, but has not been able to locate your office. Please confirm if the address and telephone numbers you have given are correct.

I received the exactly same email as shown before. The email was signed by someone named "Robert Young". After confirming that I didn't care if someone in a different geography would like to register a website with the same name but ".cn, .in, .asia", he replied offering me to register those domains first that the alleged client (!?)... here is what they replied

Thank you for your reply. Now I confirm that Karl fischer doesn't belong to your company. But you must know domain name register takes openly,it is equal for everyone to register. We follow the basis“ first come, first serve.”so we have no right to prevent Karl Fischer's application.Nowadays more and more cybersquatters online want to register quantities of domains, then they will take advantage of these domains to invest or occupy market, maybe they have other business purpose.Because it is related to your company's name and trademarks so you have the priority rights to register in order to prevent other guy from abusing your trademarks.

Provided you still need to protect those domains in asia in view of the current trade links or in the future, instead of being taken by others thus potentially causing website confusion, resulting in the loss of customers, you could pre-register them through us,and an application form will be sent to start the whole operation. This is the only way to prevent domain name grab.Pls let us know your decision soon,so that we can handle the next step.Karl Fischer wants to register these domain names(tecnira.asia tecnira.info tecnira.kr tecnira.jp tecnira.cn tecnira.in)and internet brand(tecnira).

Warm Regards,
Robert

... I'm still undecided about replying... perhaps I should say something like: "... once upon a time people came to trade with us. They bring us mirrors and they wanted gold... since that time we know what a scam is"

Now my boyfriend is going to laugh at me!! Had a little freek out this morning when the karl Fischer email came through to my blackberry from a David Lee - I would not have given it a second thought, except I'd recieved an email the previous day from an Indian sounding bunch saying this -
Good Morning,

Our client interested to purchase your item and will complete the payment directly to you. What credit card are accepted for payment ??

Dear Manager,

We received a formal application from a person who is called John Alldis is applying to register "OUR COMPANY HERE" as their domain names and Internet brand in Hong Kong and also in Asia on 2008-10-29. During our auditing procedure we find out that the alleged John Alldis has no trade mark, brand nor patent even similar to that word. As authorized anti-cybersquatting organization we hereby suspect the alleged John Alldis to be a domain or trademark grabber. Hence we need you confirmation for two things, First of all, whether this alleged John Alldis is your business partner or distributor in Asia.Secondly, whether you are interested in registering these domains and internet brand instead of that alleged person.(The alleged John Alldis will be entitled to obtain a domain not needed by original trademark owner). If you are not in charge of this please forward this email to appropriate dept.
This is a letter for confirmation. If the mentioned third party is your business partner or distributor in Asia, please DO NOT reply. We will automatically confirm application from your business partner after this audit procedure.

Dear CEO&Principal,

We are a professional Internet consultant organization in HongKong. We have something important on intellectual property right need to confirm with your company.

On Nov 11, 2008, we received an application formally. One company named "Flymoon International Holdings Ltd" wanted to register the following domain names:

During our preliminary investigation, we found that these domain names' keyword is identical with your trademark.

I wonder whether you consigned Flymoon International Holdings Ltd to register these domain names through us or not? Or is Flymoon International Holdings Ltd your business partner or distributor in Asia? Currently, we have postponed this application of this company temporarily already. In order to deal with this issue better, please let the principal make a confirmation with me by telephone or email ASAP.

I replied stating that I don't know the company in question and got this answer

"

I am glad you contact me in time.During the auditing process, we found you have registered the domain name and own the intellectual property, so required by government to inform your company the matter.

If you have not asked the alleged "Flymoon International Holdings Ltd" to register these domians, then according to our working experience, there are two possibilities.

1.Flymoon company is a domain name investment company, they want to register these names before you and sell back to you to gain profits;

2.Flymoon company is consigned by your competitor to register, they are trying to replicate your idea and let your customers feel confusion

Domain name takes open registration, this is international domain name registration principle.

So Flymoon company has right to register these domains. As a registrar, we have no right to dispute their application. I think you must know some cases about the domain names grabbed by third party, and also frequently happens internationally,we also won't want to see things happen like this.

As the owner of , your company gets the priority to register these domain names. If you think these domian names are important to your company,we can send you a dispute application form and help you to register these domains within dispute period, this is the way to prevent domain name from grabbing. Of course,if you don't think their application will affect you, you can give up.Each company has its own thinking, hope you consider it in relation to your company status and so forth, then make a decision so that we can conduct the next step work.If you have any questions, please contact me ASAP.

Best Regards,

Mendy

The good solution for this problem is to register your domain privately/anonymously. Then your personal data is simply not available on whois websites and all these scam emails go (if they bother sending them) to a Private Domain Registrar who deals with them in a professional way. I stick with yohost.org for anonymous domain purchases.

We have received a number of scam emails, the latest one was from Jacques Tits. At first sight the registrars seemed to be acting in your interest, however, it doesn' t take too long to figure out that they are after your money.

1) If you want to buy a domain, you don't ask your registrar to check whether this domain has any legal implications. What a lot of bull! You either buy it instantly or if you are a serious company interested in registering a trademark - you would certainly go to a trademark company and not some doggy domain registration company.

 2) Trademarks would superceed domain registrations. If somebody was to register www.bmw.jp in a hope to resell it or use it for their own need - they would loose the case, that is if you have an international brand. If you don't have representations in other countries (with at least 7-10 local domains) and have .com only - then who cares if somebody registers .kr etc.

As a global brand company, we have issued a following statement, after which we have not heard form the given registrar. If you are a small company, use similar idea, but different wording:

XXX has trademarks all over the world. We have notified you about our brand identity in the previous email. Without prejudice, if you accept registration from Jasques Tits or anybody else, we will contact ICANN and the proper authorities in Hong Kong and build a legal case against your company (as a registrar). This is not the first time we pursue a legal case and win it every time. This will lead to worldwidenetwork.asia de-accreditation as it happened with other registrar, including all repercussions and legal cost for your organization.

Please reply to confirm that you clearly understand our position and further proceedings.

Just got one today:

Dear CEO/Manager,

We are a domain name registration center in HongKong, mainly dealing with domain name registration and internet intellectual property rights protection. On Aug 20, 2009 we received a formal application from a company who is applying to register several domains, using "asuta" as the internet keyword. After investigation, we find that you are the original user of the keyword. Such similar domain cases may involve your company name or trade mark, and may cause website confusion and conflicts. For a responsible attitude, we inform you here and your opinion, in order to deal with this issue better, please contact us by email or telephone ASAP.

Looking forward to your reply.

Out of naivety, I replied to the above and showed my interest in obtaining their services, so this idiot sent me this horribly drafted order form in a word format file with some unbelievably high rates for their .cn, .asia, .net, .de, .eu, .in etc domains.

I duly refrained from any further correspondence, but since last week I've received a couple of emails from this guy giving me some deadlines the last one of which was today and was like:

Dear [myname],

Checking department give your company 2 workdays to handle this case. I received this earlier last week and got me worried. So I went to check further and stumble to this website which is very helpful.

However, I have registered from another registrant which wasn't charging a ridiculous price as these spammers. I'm glad I stumbled here, just that I regretted not earlier before registering a bunch load of domains.

This really shows how sophisticated these spammers has become and its quite scary that it looks so professionally done. Just check their site looks quite legitimate. So we have to be extra careful now.

The email goes like this:

(If you are not in charge of this, please forward this urgent email to your CEO, thanks.)

Dear CEO,

We are a leading internet solutions organization in Asia and we have something urgent to confirm with you. Yesterday we formally received an application from a company called "Soniac Investment Co., Ltd", they were seeking to apply for "brandname" as Brand Name and Domain Names through our organization:

Dear "Myname,

Thanks for your confirmation. If your company has no relationship with the "Soniac Investment Co., Ltd", we suspect "Soniac Investment Co., Ltd" is most likely to intend preempting registration of the domain names in advance, and use this brand in China/Asia market.

However, you should know that registration of unregistered domain names are open worldwide(first come, first served) and are available for anyone or any company to apply for. For this reason "Soniac Investment Co., Ltd" is also a legitimate applicant and we have no right to reject them. So if you think these domain names which are important to your company, and you want to protect these domain names. The best way to solve the issue for your company is to register these domains before them by yourselves( Because you are the owner of "brandname", so you have the preferential right.). This is the extent of what we can do for you as a domain name registry service.

my default reply to these (I get at least 2 a week)

I have had at least 20 emails like this in the past year, on each email I’ve replied that we are not interested in buying domain names at disproportionate prices just to prevent a non-existent company from buying them.

It’s strange that these domains are still available as someone has tried to purchase them so many times in the past, which leads me to believe that there is actually no company interested in these domains and you are in fact trying to scam me into buying domains that I neither want nor require, probably at ridiculous prices.

In the UK anyone can go online and purchase domain names, there is no procedure for stopping people from buying domains that are similar to existing domain names. I could go online now and buy orientalnetworks.co.uk and there would nothing you could do to stop it.

I always thought the Chinese people were all about honour and integrity but the amount of domain scam emails I get is starting to make me doubt that, Is China full of Nigerians?

This non-existing person is welcome to purchase these domains, WE DO NOT WANT THEM, but I have a feeling that within a week or so I will get another email claiming that a different ‘non-existent’ entity will be trying to purchase them.

p.s this was copy/pasted from a reply to another companies email last Friday, that’s how often you fuckers seem to be trying to scam me, give it up already!

Also if you type ‘oriental network’ into google the suggested result come back with only ‘oriental network scam’ but you would be able to see that if your lame county wasn’t so fucked up with censorship.

I hope your kids get hooked on drugs.

A number of Chinese Domain Name providers are trying, in bad faith, to encourage European companies to register a number of Asian domain name extensions. These providers typically claim that they have received a registration request from another company who wishes to register domain names that are identical to your company name.

What to do?
Our China IPR SME Helpdesk Experts suggest that in case you receive such an email you have four options:
1)ignore the email
2)reply to the email that you will report this email to CNNIC (the Chinese domain name registry) as ‘slamming’ and an attempt at fraudulent activity
3)forward the email to CNNIC at service@cnnic.cn
4)Register some of those domain names you may have already considered registering, through your local or usual registrar.

Dear ****,

Thank you for your reply.
The domain names and the internet keyword which Hengdian Investment Co., Ltd. applied for registering are as follows:

Internet Keyword :**************

Domain Name :

**************.asia
**************.cn
**************.co.uk
**************.jp
**************.ru
**************.sg
**************.tw

If you have no relationship with " Hengdian " , according to our working experience, there are 3 possibilities:

1.It may be a commercial method, " Hengdian " is consigned by your competitor to register these

domain names, they are trying to replicate your idea and let your customers feel confusion.

2. " Hengdian " is a domain name investment company, whose business is to invest a lot of companies' domain names, they want to register these names before you and sell back to you in the future to gain profits.

3.They want to redirect these domain names to their company's website, thus they can promote themselves with the help of your brand and make the customers misunderstand they are your subsidiary or cooperative partner so as to better develop themselves.

According to international domain name registration principle, The domain name takes open registration to the public, so HUIYI(Hong Kong) Investments Ltd. has right to apply for any domain names available. As a domain name registrar, we have no power to block their application.

As the owner of keyword “easternaccent ”, you get the priority to register these domain names and internet keyword. That's why we sent email to you. We don't hope the domains be registered without your knowledge.

LOL, I just got this email the other day. Usually I'm good with catching scams initially but for some reason I almost fell for this one. I didn't become suspicious until a day later when I wanted to see how much it would cost to buy up all of these domains. As soon as I saw that the .com.tw cost $39 at one registrar, I knew something was up. It just didn't make sense for a company to want to spend that kind of money to glom off a site that isn't all that popular. Plus, the "urgency" of the response email making it seem like I had to purchase all these names through this registrar "or else" risk losing it to this rogue company threw up red flags. Sure enough, after researching this email I came across this site, lol...

I received a similar email, one thing that I was interested to note is they mentioned our trademark which I applied for a while back and we now own. I would be interested to know how many of the recipients of these types of email have also registered trademarks.

The offer of network brand protection sounded convincing, email was recived from Heidi

XXXXXXXX.tw
Now we are handling this registration. We found that the keyword of these domain names and network keyword is identical with your company's. So we have to confirm with you at two points:
1. If your company consign Nurt Holdings to register these domain names and network keyword, we will send application form to them and help them finish the registration at once.
2. If your company has nothing to do with Nurt Holdings, they maybe have other purposes to register these domain names and network keyword.

In addition, we hereby declare the time limit for this issue is 7 workdays. In order to deal with this issue better, please contact us by telephone or email as soon as possible. If your company doesn't respond within the time, we will unconditionally approve the application submitted by "Nurt Global Holdings, Inc.".

Received this today.

On November 12,2012, we received an application formally. One company named "JKou,Group Inc" wanted to applied for the Web brand" accessinformation" and some domain names through our body.
Now we are handling with the registration of these domain names and find that these names and Web brand is identical with your company's. So we have to confirm with you at two points:
1. If your company consign JKou company to register these domain names and web brand, we will send application form to them and help them finish the registration at once.
2. If your company has nothing to do with JKou company, they maybe have other purposes to register these names and Web Brand.

We haven't finished the registration of JKou company yet, and we have postponed this application of this company temporarily already. In order to deal with this issue better, I want to confirm that are you the corporate representative of this company? If you are, I will feedback some problems to you; if you are not, please forward my letter to your company's corporate representative.
We need your definite answer.

Waiting for your reply ASAP.

Best Regards,

Jeff Chan
