I became interested in leading the health care community toward implementation of EMRs and HIEs after a 30 year career of pushing paper, making phone calls and otherwise "wasting" a huge amount of time in caring for my patients. I would spend more time properly documenting my examinations or use illegible and abbreviated notes that would mean nothing to someone else, or even more important fall into the legal system, where we are often quoted "doc, if it isn't written down, it didn't happend. I hated signing my signature. My favorite new "thing" is my tablet pc with speech recognition and writing journal which converts my mostly illegible cursive into a legible font. My first "love" is my wife and family, with ophthalmology coming in a distant second, rapidly being passed by my new role.
Since I began blogging almost four years ago on Health IT I became more interested in writing about health policy issues in general.
My other interests are politics, meterorology, history, and listening to music. My favorite devices are my iPod, my laptop and my new retinal imager. Favorite books, Of Mice and Men, Robert Frost's collection of Poetry. What I miss most....my Porsche 911, the good old days,
